Young joined Triangle in 2012 and has served as an assistant coach in the 13s-16s age groups and as a resource coach for Group 1. In 2014 Young helped lead 14 White to a second-place finish in the American Division at the Northeast Qualifier. In 2016 he assisted with 16 Black, which finished T-5 in the Open Division at AAU Junior Nationals. In 2017 16 Black became the first 16s team in Triangle and Carolina Region history to qualify in Open for USAV Junior Nationals. Again in 2018, with Young serving as assistant coach, 16 Black earned an Open bid to USAV nationals and finished the season ranked 12th overall nationally by PrepVolleyball.com
Young grew up in Hawaii, where he played at Theodore Roosevelt High School and club volleyball with Kamali’i Manaloa and Lokahi. He attended Hillsdale College in Michigan and graduated in 2004 with a bachelor's degree in history and religion. He moved to North Carolina to pursue a graduate degree in school counseling at UNC Chapel Hill, where he played on the men's club volleyball team. Upon graduation Young worked for seven years in the public school system as a middle school and high school counselor.
