Julia Mainwaring

Originally from Chapel Hill, Mainwaring was a four-year varsity player at East Chapel Hill High, earning three years as a starter, two as captain, and twice being named all-conference as a setter and outside hitter. She went on to play one season at William Peace University as a libero, setter, and opposite before transferring to Elon University. At Elon, she served as Vice President of the women’s club volleyball program, helping the team place ninth at the 2015 NCVF National Championships. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Elon with a Bachelor of Science in Sport and Event Management.

Mainwaring is currently the Assistant Volleyball Coach at Guilford College (NCAA Division III) in Greensboro, where she leads recruitment and student-athlete development. She has directed camps at Saint Mary’s, Northwest Guilford, and Northern Guilford high schools, as well as on-campus clinics. In 2019, she helped guide Guilford to its best season since 1993, posting a 19-8 overall record and a 9-3 mark in the Old Dominion Athletic Conference (ODAC). That year, the team reached the ODAC semifinals for the first time since 1997, with three players earning all-ODAC honors. In 2016, Guilford finished fifth in the conference and advanced to its first ODAC Tournament since 2012. Under her leadership, eight student-athletes have earned All-ODAC honors, and the program has received the USMC/AVCA Team Academic Award for four consecutive seasons.

Since joining Triangle, Mainwaring has coached numerous camps, clinics, and club teams. While in college, she worked as a resource coach and led Triangle summer camps and Town of Cary programming. She has served as both assistant and head coach for national teams at the 13’s, 14’s, and 15’s levels, leading teams to multiple tournament titles including Carolina Region championships, AAU Grand Prix events, and JVA’s Charm City Challenge.
