Ryan Sumarsono

 

Sumarsono grew up in Rochester, New York, and began playing volleyball in high school, where he helped lead his team to back-to-back New York State Championships in 2013 and 2014. A standout Libero, he was named Section V Libero of the Year and earned First-Team All-Conference honors. In addition to volleyball, he competed in tennis, was active in Key Club, and made the Honor Roll.

He continued his playing career at Thiel College from 2017–2019, where he was part of the 2019 Conference Championship team and led NCAA Division III in digs. Sumarsono then transferred to King University in Bristol, TN, competing from 2020–2022 and earning Academic All-Conference Carolinas honors.

Sumarsono’s coaching background spans multiple levels and programs. In 2018, he served on the Thiel College Women’s Volleyball coaching staff. During summers, he coached at Victor High School’s Boys’ and Girls’ camps, as well as the Penfield High Performance Camps (Boys and Girls), and coached with Pace Bootlegger Volleyball Club in Rochester, NY before moving to North Carolina. Sumarsono currently assists with the Duke University Men’s Club Volleyball team.

Sumarsono earned his Bachelor of Science in Nursing and later completed his Master of Business Administration with a focus in Healthcare Administration. He currently resides in Raleigh and works as a registered nurse at Duke University Hospital.
