May joined Triangle in 2014 and has more than a decade of coaching experience. She has worked with athletes of all age levels, and has held assistant and head coaching roles for Triangle’s 15U-18U teams. Most recently, May has served as an assistant coach for Triangle’s 18 Blue teams (2022-2024), and earned a 2nd place finish at the 2024Â Under Armour 18s National Championships.
Originally from Pennsylvania, May grew up playing volleyball in the greater Philadelphia area, and played collegiately for four years as a libero for Franklin & Marshall College (2008-2012). During the week, May works at NC State doing environmental health science research and communication. When she’s not coaching or talking science, Katy is actively involved in animal rescue, volunteering and fostering dogs for the SPCA.
