Vanderhorst is a Triangle alumnae having played four years (15-18s) as an outside hitter where she helped her team USAV qualify in 17 Open in 2016. Vanderhorst was a prep standout at D.H. Conley (Freshman and Sophomore) and Broughton (Junior and Senior) High Schools where she was named Conference Player of the Year in 2013, 2014 and 2016. Her junior year she was named by the AVCA an Under Armour High School All-American.
Vanderhorst was recruited to East Tennesse State University and helped the Buccaneers earn a berth in the NCAA Division I National Championship tournament. Vanderhorst transferred to East Carolina University for her sophomore season but suffered a season-ending injury. After recovering from surgery Vanderhorst transferred to Fayetteville State University where she played for three season and achieved a career attacking average of 2.84 kills/set.Vanderhorst is completing her degree in Communications in Media at Fayetteville State.
