Cox was born and raised in Roxboro, NC. While playing for Person High School, she helped lead her team to back-to-back state championships in 2006 and 2007. She spent her seven-year club career with NC Challengers, which later became NC Elite.
Cox attended UNC Wilmington, graduating in 2012 with dual bachelor’s degrees in Athletic Training and Health and Physical Education. After graduation, she returned to her alma mater to teach, assist the Person High School varsity volleyball team, and head coach the JV team.
With over ten years of club coaching experience, Cox has served as both head and assistant coach, specializing in setter and libero/defensive specialist positions.Â
