Powell is originally from Pittsboro, NC and a Triangle alumni, having played six consecutive seasons (13-18s) at the Black team level. As an outside hitter, Powell helped to lead her Triangle teams to multiple USAV Girls’ Junior Nationals Open level qualifications (15, 16s, 17s, and 18s). Powell’s prep career was spent at Northwood High School where she was a four time All Conference honoree and was named the Conference Player of the Year in 2017.
Powell was recruited to Virginia Tech where she amassed 790 kills and 364 digs. While at Virginia Tech she was recognized for both her athletic and academic pursuits by being selected to the ACC All-Academic Team and the College Sports Communicators Academic All-District team. Powell graduated Virginia Tech with a Bachelor of Science in Public Health. She went on to graduate school and utilized her 5th year (Covid) of eligibility at UConn. While at UConn, Powell surpassed the 1000 kill mark, finishing her collegiate career with 1049 kills. At UConn Powell earned a Graduate Certificate in Leadership and Public Management.
Powell began coaching while at Virginia Tech, serving as an assistant coach for River Valley Juniors 16s. She has also worked numerous collegiate summer camps over her five years as a varsity collegiate athlete.
Powell is currently the Assistant Coach at Meredith College.
