A native of Lewisville, North Carolina, Brence grew up in a volleyball family and developed a strong understanding of the game from an early age before beginning his competitive volleyball career in high school. While attending NC State, he competed in club volleyball from 2020–2024 and served as a practice player for the NC State women’s volleyball program under Head Coach Luka Slabe. An outside hitter/opposite, he continues to play adult volleyball and brings valuable playing experience to the Triangle coaching staff.
Prior to joining Triangle, Brence coached CHAVC 15 Black for two seasons, helping lead the team to a USA Volleyball Girls Junior National Championship appearance in 2026. Before pursuing volleyball, he was a highly accomplished soccer goalkeeper, competing at the highest club level in North Carolina and participating in the North Carolina Olympic Development Program.
Brence graduated from North Carolina State University in 2024 with a Bachelor of Science in Human Biology. He currently resides with his wife in Durham and works in the Triangle real estate industry.
