Katharine Esterley '16

Esterley returns to Triangle as a coach following a distinguished prep career as a junior athlete. She hails from Chapel Hill and competed at Chapel Hill High School during her prep career. During her two-year stint with the Tigers, Esterley led Chapel Hill to back-to-back conference titles and two top-eight finishes at the NCHSAA 3A state playoffs while being named 3A All-Conference in 2012 and 2013.

Esterley was a standout middle blocker at Triangle from 2012-2016. She was a two-time Junior Volleyball Association All-America selection in 2015 and 2016, and she led her club team to a third-place finish at the 2015 Disney Showcase Qualifier. In addition, her club teams posted top-25 finishes at year-end national championships in 2014 (ninth at 2014 AAU Junior Nationals) and 2015 (13th at 2015 USAV Junior Nationals).

She continued her athletic career at the University of North Carolina under Coach Joe Sagula. As a freshman, Esterley broke UNC's freshman records for block assists (124) and blocks per set (1.44), and posted the third-most total blocks (127) for a Carolina rookie in 2017. She has been a three-time ACC Academic Honor Roll Selection (2017-2019) and a team captain for two seasons (2018, 2019). Esterley also participates in the Richard A. Baddour Carolina Leadership Academy as part of the Activate program. She is double-majoring in political science and peace, war & defense with a minor in social and economic justice.
