Kelsey Smith

Smith was born and raised in Kingsport, Tennessee, where she attended Sullivan South High School. During her prep career, Smith was a key leader for the Rebels and helped them to the state tournament as a junior and senior while serving as a co-captain. She earned All Big 8 honors her last two seasons and was named the Defensive Player of the Year in 2010. Smith also competed in club for Tri-Cities Extreme as an outside hitter and defensive specialist.

Following her prep career, Smith was a walk-on at Tennessee Tech as a defensive specialist before finishing her career at University of Virginia – Wise. During her time at UVA – Wise, Smith utilized her versatility for the Cavaliers as both a pin hitter and backrow player. As a senior in 2015, Smith played in every match and finished fourth in digs on the squad, helping the Cavaliers to their winningest season since 2007.  She also began coaching while in college, working at Tri-Cities Extreme coaching their 14s team.

After graduating from college, Smith has continued coaching and started her professional career as a teacher. After working in Virginia for two years, Smith made the move to Raleigh where she coached at Carroll Magnet Middle School. She now works at Broughton High School as the Varsity Assistant Volleyball Coach and Special Education Teacher.
