Friday, May 11, 2018: The athletes and accomplishments of the 2018 season were honored at Triangle’s annual End of Season Celebration held at the Raleigh Convention Center. In addition to team awards and special recognition Triangle recapped an exciting season both on and off the court. The highlights of this season’s service includes:Collections for Note in the PocketFirst all-veteran competitive sitting team formedBegan partnership with Gigi’s Playhouse – an adult Down’s Syndrome Achievement CenterFunded a tournament trip for Borinquen Coqui 16-1F as part of our Hurricane Maria relief efforts.Host site for the North Carolina Special Olympics Volleyball Summer Gamesand more.Special RecognitionThe following individuals were recognized for above and beyond service to Triangle’s mission “to educate the whole person through excellence in the sport of volleyball.”Mary Elizabeth Finegan Award for ServiceMadelyn Wilson ’20 (Honorary 16s team member, Apex Friendship) – Despite a life-changing diagnosis of stage 4 Hodgkins Lymphoma this past fall, Madelyn, not only battled her illness but she found a way to raise over $20,000 for Duke Children’s Valvano Day Hospital and the 5100 Children’s Oncology wing. Madelyn, now cancer-free, and in recovery from her aggressive treatment is working hard to make her way back to the court.Meredith Blum (Coach 16U Boys, 12 Steel, and 12 Regional AAU) – Meredith works with nearly everyone of our service programs and consistently volunteers for club activities and events.Iron Triangle Award – recognizes athletes with a deep passion and commitment for health and fitnessMaya Starr, Triangle 13 Blue, Group 3/4 (Monday/Wednesday)Lauren Denney, Triangle 15 White, Group 2 (Tuesday/Thursday late)Kaeli Braswell, Triangle 16 Blue, Group 1 (Tuesday/Thursday early)Sam Casey Caram Excellence in Coaching Award – Brian Bacchi. Brian coached Triangle 15 Silver, resourced Group 1, and is coaching 16 Regional AAU this season.The Board Award – Emily Curtis, Triangle 18 Blue, Class of 2018. Triangle’s most presitigious student-athlete award recognizing the athlete who best personifies Triangle’s mission and character and so named in honor of Ashley Brooke Board McMullin, Class of 2004. Emily has played at Triangle for eight years and currently serves as the assistant coach of Triangle 14 White. She has worked with our youth program and volunteers with other club teams and programs throughout the year.Triangle Cup winner – Triangle 14 White. The Triangle Cup is an internal and friendly competitive service challenge.Triangle Awards are individual team awards that recognize the athlete on each team that best represents the core values of our club.
