Check Out Triangle’s History of Success with the NCAA Tournament

The 2014 NCAA Division 1 Women’s Volleyball tournament is down to the Final Four which will be played in Oklahoma City. Triangle has a rich history with this tournament amongst both its staff and alumna. As we approach the crowning of yet another national champion we have Madison Bugg [Class of 2012] setting the #1 seeded Stanford Cardinal. Their semi-final match is this Thursday at 930pm on ESPN2 against perennial champion Penn State.
Here is a historical review of Triangle and the NCAA D1 tournament.

Triangle Coaching Staff: on the female side 11 of our current coaches appeared at least once in the NCAA tournament. Triangle’s 1st competitive season and first senior class…2003

Triangle athlete first appearance in NCAA D1 tournament-Logan Striebel Barber, 2004

Triangle has had at least one player participating in the NCAA D1 tournament since 2004.

62 of 142 Triangle alums have appeared in the NCAA D1 tournament at least once having played a total of 171 tournament matches. The win-loss record of these matches is 120-51; a 70% win percentage.

Triangle athletes have appeared in 39 second round matches; 20 sweet 16 matches; 18 elite 8 matches, and 12 final fours.

Triangle has had one or more athletes in the elite 8 since 2006.

Triangle has had one or more athletes in the finals every year with the exception of 2012 [eliminated in the Final Four] since 2007.

CHAMPIONSHIPS-One or more Triangle athletes have been on the NCAA D1 National Championship team every year since 2007 except 2012.

Triangle alums have won 9 National Championships in 10 appearances. The only loss was in a Triangle head-to-head championship [PSU-Slay vs. Wisconsin-Nelson, 2013]

National Champions-Hodge ’06 [PSU 2007, 2008, 2009]; Kabbes ’08 [PSU 2008. 2009, 2010]; Camp ’08 [UCLA 2011]; Slay ’10 [PSU 2010, 2013]

Join us as we cheer on Madi and the Stanford Cardinal Thursday night. A win puts them in the finals on Saturday night at 730pm.
