Pair of Triangle Athletes Snag MVP Honors
The North Carolina High School Athletic Association [NCHSAA] held their volleyball state championships on Saturday, January 22nd at Green Level High School, and Triangle Volleyball Club was well-represented among the winner’s circle. 12 Triangle players and coaches helped their teams to state titles, representing the 3A Champion D.H. Conley and the 4A winner Cardinal Gibbons.In addition, both the 3A and 4A Most Valuable Player awards were given to Triangle athletes. In the 3A championship game, D.H. Conley won their first state championship since 2007 by defeating Cox Mill 3-0 (25-23, 25-23, 25-23). Conley was led by junior Maddy May [17 Black], who posted a team-high 10 kills, along 8 digs and 1 assist. The three Triangle athletes helped D.H. Conley go 16-1 in the 2020-2021 season.In the 4A championship game, Cardinal Gibbons completed their unbeaten season with a 3-0 victory over Providence (25-17, 25-14, 25-13). The Crusaders captured their 11th state championship, but their first title since 2015. CGHS was paced by senior outside hitter Emily Chrysogelos [18 Black], who notched 22 kills — two more kills than the entire Providence offense.
